Tappahannock, VA – Dr. Harry Thomas, III was appointed as the next superintendent of Essex County Public Schools at this evening’s school board meeting. His new position will be effective August 15, 2019. Thomas has more than 20 years’ experience in public education in Virginia serving as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director of instruction. Thomas most recently served as the Chief Academic Officer for Fredericksburg City Public Schools.

Thomas earned a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech, a master’s degree in education from James Madison University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Mary Washington College.
The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) assisted the school board with the superintendent search process.
